Abstract
Abstract The intensities of IR bands due to the heteroatom–oxygen (P–O and Si–O) and the bridged lattice oxygen(Mo–O–Mo) in 12-heteropolymolybdate anions decreased markedly upon formation of Mo5+ without any elimination of their lattice oxygen. The significance of this finding in relation to the previously proposed mechanisms for the reduction of 12-molybdophosphoric acid and its salts is discussed.
