Abstract
The coefficients of rolling friction of polymeric materials for a rigid and cylinder are calculated using the generalized Voigt model. Surface deformation owing to rolling sphere or cylinder is assumed as a periodic phenomenon to derive the theoretical correlation between rolling friction and dynamic modulus of material. It is concluded that the coefficient of rolling friction can be calculated from dynamic data, and conversely dynamic data from rolling friction. Temperature and rolling speed dependencies of the coefficient are explained by temperature and dynamic frequency dependencies of material, respectively. Experimental results for several polymers provide quantitative agreements with theoretical results.
