Abstract
K- and L-shell auto-ionization probabilities have been measured for the beta decays of 147Pm and 185W by Ge(Li) and Si(Li) spectroscopy techniques that eliminate electron detection. The results obtained are in good agreement with values calculated from a model based on vacancy creation mechanisms of shake-off and shake-up and employing a simple correction for direct collisions.
