Abstract
Eocronartium has long been considered a parasitic Auriculariales, perhaps representing an ancestral form of our modern-day rusts of higher plants. Septal ultrastructure of two collections of E. muscicola reveals a pore structure essentially identical to those of the Uredinales and Septobasidiales and different from those of other Auriculariales studied thus far.
