Abstract

Binding of Salmonella minnesota R form glycolipid mR595 to cultured rat embryo fibroblasts has been demonstrated by three methods: by uptake of labelled glycolipid, by passive hemagglutination and by immunofluorescence. The results by the three methods are correlative. Normal rat embryo fibroblasts exhibit lower fixation capacity than SV40 transformed rat embryo fibroblasts. Trypsinization of the two types of cells results in increased fixation of the bacterial glycolipid. Glycolipid mR595 binding is localized at the cell surface.
