Abstract
A mathematical theorem is introduced which has direct application to the theory of lattice vibrations and is independent of dimension. It clarifies much of the previous work on disordered one-dimensional systems and provides the basis for a reasonable computational technique for the determination of the frequency spectra of disordered two-dimensional lattices.
