Abstract

The frequency, field, and temperature dependences of the amplitude of sound excited by an electromagnetic wave at the boundary of a metal under normal skin efffect are analyzed. The resonance characteristics of surface impedance of a metal plate are studied upon a contact-free excitation of standing elastic waves across its thickness. A simple experimental technique is described for studying this phenomenon, and the electromagnetic excitation of transverse and longitudinal sounds in indium and tin single crystals is studied.
