Abstract

A systematic derivation, using the time-dependent formulation of Raman scattering, of some Placzek-type polarizability (PtP) tensors—the multidimensional reflection, the semiclassical coordinate space, and the locally linear coordinate-space polarizability tensors—which are dependent only on the nuclear coordinates are presented, and their limitations are discussed. Phase-space pictures are used to show the relationship between the various approximations from which the PtP tensors are derived. These PtP tensors are expected to be accurate, even on resonance, for repulsive, multidimensional excited state surfaces.
