On the time dependence of optical activity

Abstract

A dynamical theory of the low temperature relaxation of optical isomers is presented. A set of Bloch equations descriptive of the relaxation of chirality are derived from ’’first principles.’’ A collision induced stability of optical isomers is found, verifying earlier qualitative predictions. A microscopic description of the damping is found in terms of the S matrix for collisions.
