Abstract

We report the results of a molecular beam study on the energy fluence and wavelength dependence of the dissociation probability of SF6. We find surprisingly high values at power densities which rule out an essential contribution of power broadening but rather stress the importance of efficient absorption in the lower levels. No loss of isotopic selectivity is observed for power densities up to 108 W/cm2 in the P (20) line at 944.2 cm−1.
