Optical and Infrared Spectra of the Ferrites and Garnets

Abstract

A discussion of the variety of applications of spectroscopy to the study of magnetic materials (as restricted to the ferrites and garnets) is presented. Far infrared atomic spectra, infrared vibration spectra, and impurity spectra are discussed as well as the visible and near-visible spectra of the transition metal and rare earth ions. The optical study of the iron-rare earth exchange interaction in the garnets is described in some detail.
