Abstract

The heat capacity of sodium tungsten bronze (NaxWO3) has been measured over the temperature range 1.8–4.2°K for various concentrations of sodium. An approximation to the density of states curve for the conduction band was obtained from the experimental data. This may be correlated with the previously described maximum in the electrical conductivity. It was found that the lattice contribution to the heat capacity was appreciably affected by the thermal history of the sample while the electronic contribution was relatively unaffected.
