Structure and Barrier Height of Methyl Mercaptan from Microwave Data

Abstract

The 000—101 rotational transitions of several isotopic species of methyl mercaptan have been observed. This has permitted a complete determination of the structural parameters of this molecule. The torsional energy levels of C12H3S32H and C12D3S32H have been approximately determined by relative intensity measurements. A sinusoidal barrier height has been determined which gives torsional energy levels in agreement with the observed ones.
