Abstract
Measurements are reported of the temperature changes which accompany isentropic magnetization of GdCl3 at temperatures between 1.2° and 4°K with fields between 0.5 and 8.4 kG. At the Curie temperature 2.20° K temperature changes of ∼0.5°/kG were found. Using the results of earlier zero-field specific heat measurements, an entropy diagram was constructed, and from this the variation of specific heat with temperature in various fields calculated. The general behavior is well explained by a simple molecular field theory based on high temperature susceptibility measurements.
