Lifetimes and Quantum Yields of Individual Vibronic States of C6D6 and C6H5F

Abstract

The lifetimes and quantum yields of fluorescence from 22 vibronic states of C6D6 and 59 vibronic states of C6H5F have been determined under ``free molecule'' conditions. It is found that the dependence of non-radiative lifetime on number of quanta of excess vibrational energy follows a pattern similar to that observed for C6H6. Calculations of the energy dependence of τnr by Heller, Freed, and Gelbart are in good agreement with the observations. An ancillary consequence of the study of the lifetimes of vibronic states of C6H5F is the suggested reassignment of five transitions.
