Abstract
Fluorescence from the asymmetric stretching vibration (Δυ3 = 1) of N2O is observed following excitation by a Q-switched N2O laser. The time dependence of the fluorescence is used to measure the rates of relaxation of N2O(00°1) at 25°C as the result of intermolecular collisions with N2O, He, Ne, Ar, Kr, H2, and D2. The rate of energy exchange between N2O(00°1) and N2(υ = 1) is also determined.
