Abstract

The theory of diffusion-controlled chemical reactions, as presented by Waite [T. R. Waite, Phys. Rev. 107, 463 (1957)] using phenomenological arguments, is analyzed from a statistical-mechanical standpoint, and the approximations needed to arrive at Waite's starting equation are examined.
