Abstract
Properties of films of the niobium-aluminum-germanium system prepared by simultaneous deposition of the individual constituents are presented. The optimum superconducting material obtained contains a large fraction of the desired A-15 compound and has an as-deposited critical temperature of over 17.8 K. Appropriate annealing increases Tc to above 19 K and probably close to values attained in bulk material. Current capacity is above 105 A/cm2 at 50 kOe. Limitations in sample properties have been caused by the substrate material, either Hastelloy B or niobium. Preliminary indications show that the use of tungsten-coated Hastelloy B will avoid these limitations.
