It is somewhat arbitrary whether we consider the anionic SBU derived from benzenetetracarboxylate as a single vertex 4-coordinated to four rods (frl) or as a square with each vertex linked to a rod (fry). The process of replacing a vertex with its coordination figure, as in the transformation frl → fry, we call augmentation, and we usually consider nets and their augmented derivatives as essentially the same topology.
