/ Mon. Not. R. Astron. Soc. by Herbst E. (1991)- It may be noted that the modeling of [10] calculated the association rate constant based on emission of just one IR photon from the metastable complex, whereas for the present purpose the forward rate constant of eq 1 corresponds to emission of the entire cascade of IR photons to cool the complex to ambient temperature. However, this is not a meaningful problem, because modeling indicates that the time scale for cooling of the metastable complex is of the order of 1 s, which is fast compared with the radiative association rate constants. Thus the initial formation of stabilized complex is the rate-determining step in the overall forward reaction process of eq 1.
