Yamanaka T, Horikoshi Y, Suzuki A, Sugiyama Y, Kitamura K, Maniwa R, Nagai Y, Yamashita A, Hirose T, Ishikawa H et al.: PAR-6 regulates aPKC activity in a novel way and mediates cell–cell contact-induced formation of the epithelial junctional complex. Genes Cell 2001, in press. Using cultured epithelial cells, the authors revealed that the pre-existing PAR–aPKC ternary complex is targeted to the cell–cell contact in the initial phase of cell polarization and that they remain at the apical-most zones of the cell–cell contact. The authors also showed that Cdc42 can activate aPKC through PAR-6.
