  51. It is impossible to decide whether the enantioselective catalytic reaction occurs exclusively in the liquid phase, the CO2 phase or in both. However, the experience using unmodified BINAPHOS in multiphase systems shows that the perfluoroalkyl substitution is required for high selectivities even under two-phase conditions [16a,20].
