Abstract
AbstractThe oxidized states of double‐stranded, planar (1,4‐phenylene)‐type ladder polymers are characterized by means of UV/VIS/NIRNIR: Near infrared. spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The oxidation with antimony pentachloride or iron trichloride proceeds as a two‐step process; first, radical cationic (polaronic) species are generated, followed by the formation of dicationic (bipolaronic) ones. Especially the polymeric radical cations formed possess an outstanding chemical stability. The findings of cyclovoltammetric investigations are in full agreement with the chemical oxidation experiments.
