Abstract

AbstractThe data obtained by small‐angle X‐ray scattering demonstrated that in ethyl methyl ketone, which is a selective solvent for polystyrene, the block copolymer polystyrene/polybutadiene/polystyrene (SBS) forms micelles. The values of the radius of gyration (253 Å) and “weight” (37·106) of micelles were determined. The micelles are not stable in the presence of air.The radius of the polybutadiene nucleus (198 Å) and of the whole micelle (349 Å) were estimated from an idealized model (particle consisting of two concentric spheres). For the given model particle, the scattering function and a relationship for the calculation of the radius of gyration were derived.
