Abstract
AbstractThe intrinsic viscosities of several amylose fractions dissolved in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), formamide and 0.5 M KCl have been measured in the temperature range 25 to 55°C. The temperature coefficient of viscosity was found to be negative for amylose in DMSO and formamide, but was negligible in 0.5 M KCl. A recent extension of the FLORY solution theory proposed by KURATA and STOCKMAYER has been used successfully to describe the behaviour of amylose solutions, and from this an equation representing Θ conditions for amylose at 25°C. is proposed.
