Because of the nature of the UBFF as applied to three‐membered rings there is reason to believe that Kccfor1as reported may be slightly “too high”; that is it should be reduced slightly to be comparable with the same force constant for2and3(see Ref. 18 for details). However the statements made about1remain justified even if a generous allowance is made for this possibility.
Other aromatic three‐membered ring compounds (C3H3+ C3Cl3+) also show very high values of C–C stretching force constants. See Ref. 18 for a discussion.
