Abstract

AbstractThe common methods for measuring Monod half‐velocity coefficients are reviewed. All methods have serious disadvantages for obtaining rapid and accurate measurements whether batch‐fed or continuous‐fed systems are used. An “infinite dilution” technique is described that overcomes these difficulties. Data obtained by this method for autotrophic oxidation of NO2− and NH4+gave 20°C, pH 7.0, K3 values of 0.07 mg NO2−‐N/liter and 0.50 mg NH4±N/liter, respectively.
