Abstract

A new perovskite‐related compound, YBaCo2O5, is reported, which has a basic structure which is tetragonal and isomorphous with YBaCuCoO5. Excess oxygen can be introduced into the anionic sites in the yttrium layer, an effect which could be important in the development of the material as a redox catalyst and a charge carrier reservoir in high‐Tc superconductors as part of a superlattice formed with a superconducting phase. The preparation of the new material and the analysis of its structure are reported.
